Who makes it
I'm Mark, a software engineer in Australia. I studied commerce and worked in accounting and financial services before moving into software, and I have spent more than ten years since then building it, from enterprise systems to phone apps.
Why it exists
I manage my own retirement fund. It holds shares, bonds, gold, property, crypto and cash, in more than one currency. For years the only complete picture of it was a spreadsheet I kept beside three tracking apps, each of which understood a different slice.
Most of Panoramica began as a question about my own money that I could not answer without an afternoon in the spreadsheet: how much of it sits in one currency, when I last revalued the flat, whether one holding has grown into too large a share of the whole. Each of those is now a number on a screen.
How it should behave
A portfolio should open at once, on a plane as readily as at a desk, so the app keeps its own copy on your phone and syncs it in the background.
Every price carries its date. When a figure is older than it should be for its kind of asset, a day for a share and ninety for a house, the app marks it and asks you to update it.
